This Private Signals of the Whaling Vessels & c. Belonging to the Port of New Bedford Print displays the pinnacle of whaling in New Bedford. Authored by Charles Taber & Co., this chart features 98 distinctive house flags from 100 whaling agents operating in the New Bedford and Fairhaven region. These flags represent a fleet of 423 ships - the largest number of whaling vessels ever located within the port of New Bedford. Each flag on the chart corresponds to the agents and ships involved, providing a comprehensive overview of this impressive part of the New Bedford port district's history. The original print is a permanent artifact (1992.10.11) in the New Bedford Whaling Museum's collection and currently hangs in our Lagoda exhibition.
