This exquisite Lagoda Faux-Whale Tooth, Small boasts a stunning etching of the whaling ship, Lagoda. Locally crafted using resin, this replica Sperm whale tooth is finished to emulate an antique scrimshaw piece and features the same ridges and edges as a real tooth.
Converted into a whaling ship by merchant Jonathan Bourne Jr in 1841, the Lagoda made sixteen whaling voyages before being retired in 1890. A half-scale version of the ship was built in 1916 and remains a key feature of the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
