Delano Whaleboat Model by William J. Leong

By William J. Leong

Scratch built Beetle whaleboats fully equipped, as on a whaling ship to hunt whales

This “Kit-Bashed” model, was designed by Erik A. R. Ronnberg, Jr., under contract from Model Shipways, a division of Model Expo Company who worked with the New Bedford Whaling Museum contributing to Mr. Ronnberg’s Book “To Build A Whaleboat, Historical Notes And A Modelmaker’s Guide", 1999.  It also formed the construction set for Model Shipways Company's whaleboat model kit.  In this model, William Leong modified parts to more appropriately represented accuracy.  The model represents a prominent 1850’s Acushnet, MA boat builder, Joshua H. Delano across the river In New Bedford, MA.

William Leong is an extraordinary artist who creates historically accurate models of ships, whaleboats, and related objects. William painstakingly researches everything he builds, working with museum and gallery experts to ensure that every detail is correct.  Then, he transforms his research into breathtaking works of art.
